The Lemon Lemming ‘Spirit of Survival’

Childhood:

Wesley Bitter (Lemon)

Raised and spoiled by his wealthy middle class parents, Wesley’s early life was a breeze. Then, when he was only twelve-years-old, his Art historian father disappeared in mysterious circumstances.
Without any other family to help them financially, his mother was forced to sell their home and everything they owned just to survive and to protect him and his sister. Moving to a cheaper but much rougher area, Wesley, despite his academic promise, was forced to leave school early.
Aged just fifteen, Wesley lied about his age and joined the army to spare his mother the financial burden of supporting him. After basic training, he was even able to send a little money home and learn what he could beyond the combat drills.

Aspect 1) Property means nothing.
Aspect 2) Protect the women.

Great war:

With distain for the Air force and Navy, Wesley Bitter had already volunteered for Kitchener’s army. Although under age, he shipped out with the 12th Division to Paris in France. Due to his bravery under fire, Private Lemon soon rose to the rank of sergeant and was popular with his men. Towards the end of the war though, at the battle of Arras, Sergeant Lemon disobeyed a direct, but foolish order from his superior officer. By ignoring his orders, he still succeeded in his objective to capture a fortified German position, and he saved the lives of his entire unit as well as the majority of a Canadian one tasked with the same job. Sergeant Lemon succeeded in his mission by disregarding orders and choosing his own alternative strategy. This embarrassed his incompetent commanding officer and therefore cost Wesley his stripes.

Aspect 3) Ignore the ignorant.
Aspect 4) Look ‘em in the eye.

Pulp novel: Lost in the White Wilderness

A few years after being demobbed, Wesley received a tip-off from one of his ex-army Canadian friends regarding his father. Begging a favour from an Air force friend, Wesley heads off to Alaska in search of answers regarding his father’s mysterious disappearance.
Once there, he travels on by sled dogs, but soon finds himself lost and alone. His dogs perish one by one and Wesley is forced to march onwards until he also collapses. Almost frozen to death, he is found and saved by the wise woman of a hidden Inuit tribe who nurses him back to health.
On waking several weeks later, he finds himself wrapped tightly in a lemming pelt fur coat.
He is miraculously fully recovered with no missing digits or any sign of the frostbite he’d received, but he’s hundreds of miles from where he’d fallen.
Bafflingly, he is back at the western settlement that he’d first landed. Grateful for being alive, but cursing the cold trail for his father, Wesley heads back to England.

Aspect 5) Friendship’s a two way street.
Aspect 6) Tool of Torngasak (Inuit god)

Lemon Lemming guest starring in: Wymbourne Knight vs. The All Girl Finishing School of Injustice.

While stationed in France, Lemon Lemming is informed of an English plane going down in a region suspected of harbouring German agents.
Although a rescue attempt is deemed too risky, sergeant Bitter dons a yellow ski-mask and gloves to disguise his insubordination. He ‘steals’ a souped up army motorcycle, and races there at breakneck speed. Once he arrives at the obviously defended mansion, he crashes, unsubtly, straight through the French oak door.
Staggering to his feet, gun in hand, he shoots several of the burly guards and battles through a dozen more before he finds the pilot surrounded by several beautiful young women in a state of undress.
‘Sir Wymbourne!’
‘Oh hello; what’s up old man?’
‘You're in great peril!’
‘What, from these delicious young ladies?
‘Quick, make a break for it and I'll cover your escape.'
‘Look, I'm fine!’
‘COME ON!’

Aspect 7) Act now, think later.
Aspect 8) Last man out.

Second guest star: Dr Killstone and the Monkey’s paw.

Before shipping out to Africa, Dr Killstone is working with a team of Army scientists mapping the newly discovered genetic pattern variants between the world’s different races.
Recently returned from France, Wesley Bitter is one of the soldiers ‘volunteered’ by his vengeful commanding officer to help with the painful procedures. Other’s scream as spinal fluid is extracted, but the soldier ironically nicknamed ‘Lemon’ bites down on his pain.
Despite being born and raised in a suburb of North London and having two well-spoken parents, he is summoned to Dr Killstone’s office.
“Mr Bitter, I have some possibly disturbing news for you.”
Surprised at the summons, Wesley merely nods.
“Most of our test subjects have come out, unsurprisingly as having Anglo-Saxon genetic ancestry. You on the other hand, seem to be somehow at least partially ‘Red Indian’. Can you explain how this is possible? If not, it’s back to the drawing board for our methodology.”
Wesley Bitter, for a moment just stares blankly at the scientist sitting behind his desk…
“My Father was dark haired, but he disappeared when I was just a child. As far as I’m aware, he was as English as you or… I?”
